First installations in South America

Ticketing and access specialist Axess AG is providing Chile’s three most popular ski resorts with its systems for the upcoming season

Axess is expanding into South America and installing its innovative access systems in Valle Nevado, La Parva and Corralco for the upcoming winter season. They are also the three most popular ski resorts in Chile.

The highest-level Smart Gates will be installed in Chile this summer

While many of us here are thinking about sea and summer vacations, over in Chile the snow is slowly starting to fall and Santiago de Chile, with its five million inhabitants, is gearing up for winter. The store windows are displaying skiing equipment because Valle Nevado and La Parva are just an hour’s drive – including sixty bends – away. The two winter sport resorts promise fun on the slopes and optimum snow conditions at altitudes of up to 3,670 meters. Valle Nevado is ranked eighteenth in altitude among the world’s ski resorts, while La Parva comes in at 24. As an alternative to the Smart Gates, these resorts also read and check tickets using the portable handheld readers. Lane Control monitors and cameras are used in all areas for optimum security. The ski resort of Corralco lies at 2,000 meters and is famous for its powder snow, guaranteed by the unique coastal climate. Cruising down a volcano, too, makes for a truly one-of-a-kind skiing experience.

Axess got awarded the contract for ticketing and access management for all three ski resorts – starting the company’s expansion to South America with a bang. Bursting with motivation, project manager Manuel Schröder will soon be a frequent flyer to the other side of the world to ensure that the Smart Gates in their various versions (floor-mounted and gantry), point-of-sale and ticketing systems are all up and running and ready for the start of the winter season. For all three projects, Axess scored with its customized solutions. These include a fiscal module, which is mandatory in Chile, as well as a customized interface for the existing webshop. Due to the different ownership structures of the three resorts, a demand-based clearing software is also required. New Axess software products, custom-designed to reflect the resort character of the destinations, are already being developed and will soon be available as additional features.

Corralco – a seven hours’ drive south of Santiago – never fails to impress with its magnificent deep-snow slopes and the unique feeling of skiing down a volcano. As in Europe, ski pass checks are an important subject. The Smart Gates in the Flap version and the option of integrating parking space management ultimately swayed the vote strongly in favor of Axess.

What makes Axess AG so incredibly successful in new countries is the ability to design individual solutions that meet practically every requirement. Its basic systems can be specifically configured thanks to the flexibility of the modular structure. Equally flexible for the user is the AX 500 Datacenter, which controls the systems. Various tariffs and configurations can be entered to meet customers’ specific requirements. And there is always an Axess employee available to provide further assistance worldwide – like Manuel Schröder, who will be spending the majority of his working hours in Chile at the start of the project to ensure a perfect go-live. And then, once the snow over there begins to melt again, it will be time for the first snowflakes to fall over Europe, and the skiing pleasures will start once again in the northern hemisphere.
