Interest in skiing in Japan peaked in 1993, when about one in seven Japanese people participated in this winter sport. Today, those numbers have significantly decreased, and the major ski and snowboard boom in the country is over, though winter sports remain popular. For the 2024/25 winter season, Japanese ski resorts have made substantial investments in infrastructure.
The market remains highly attractive for the industry. With 40 exhibitors and 1,200 visitors, Snow Expo Japan 2024 demonstrated its importance in the region. The Austrian trade promotion agency "Advantage Austria" organized an Austrian pavilion, where companies such as Axess, Demaclenko, Doppelmayr Group, Kahlbacher, Prinoth, and Skidata showcased their products and services. The ISR was also present with the Japan edition and a staff member on-site.
The next edition will be held again on February 12 and 13, 2025, at Pacifico Yokohama. The trade fair focuses on areas such as ski/snowboard equipment and, since 2020, infrastructure, providing a valuable opportunity for European companies to present their products to the growing Japanese winter sports market.
