New ropeways across Europe

A mix of comfort and efficiency enhancements is the basis for the activities of the Italian ropeway manufacturer Leitner in France, Slovakia, Poland, Greece and Montenegro.

The order for the construction of a new 10-seater gondola lift in the French skiing area Gourette, including the option to transport bikes, marked the launch of the operator’s collaboration with the Italian ropeway manufacturer Leitner. As part of this comprehensive restructuring of the lift infrastructure, the GD10 Cotch will now run on the route of a disused 6-seater chairlift, transporting up to 2,000 passengers per hour in 24 Premium Cabins Diamond EVO to the Snowk’fé mountain restaurant at an altitude of 1,610 metres.

Leitner had already installed two high-performance 6-seater chairlifts in the French skiing area La Forêt Blanche on the Vars side back in 2022. This was followed by the construction of another facility of the same type on the Risoul side in 2024: the CD6 Homme de Pierre replaces two existing facilities, the Césier 3-seater chairlift and the Homme de Pierre surface lift, and among other features, is equipped with individual footrests and bike rack. The facility transports up to 2,400 passengers per hour, ensuring an even faster connection to the top station at an altitude of 2,376 metres.

In Font Romeu in the Prades arrondissement, the signs are also pointing to increased performance and safety: the decision to build a new fixed-grip 4-seater chairlift with KidStop will increase the transport capacity on the 638-metre route to 2,000 passengers per hour.

Seven new Leitner ropeways in ski resorts in Central Eastern Europe

The Slovakian skiing area Bachledka Ski & Sun has invested in a new 6-seater chairlift with Leitner DirectDrive. The CD6C Franková upgrades the popular family skiing area with a transport capacity of almost 3,000 passengers per hour. In the course of the work, the 10-seater gondola lift built by Leitner in 2018 was also equipped with nine additional cabins, to further increase the transport capacity.

Three new facilities were built in Poland in 2024. In addition to a new surface lift, a comfortable 6-seater chairlift has also been built in Szczyrk Mountain Resort, one of the largest skiing areas in the country. The CD6C Doliny III is equipped with weather bubbles, individual footrests and premium padding and reaches an hourly capacity of 1,800 passengers, with a journey time of less than four minutes. This will noticeably increase the quality of the trip to the skiing area, which offers 36 km of mostly beginner-friendly slopes.

A new inclined elevator serves as a modern access to the ski jump in Wisla. In a modern 3S Symphony cabin, the facility with automatic level control transports up to 40 people up 300 metres and can also be used for tourist purposes in summer.

New installations in southern Europe

In Chelmos, in the northern part of the Peloponnese peninsula, Leitner has now built a new 6-seater chairlift to replace a disused 2-seater chairlift, following the construction of a 10-seater gondola lift in 2023. The Styga facility covers an altitude difference of 475 metres and transports up to 1,500 passengers per hour to the top station of the Chelmos - Kalavrita skiing area in just five minutes.

Two new Leitner surface lifts are modernising the transport of guests at the Kolašin ski resort in Montenegro, symbolising the resort’s plans to become the largest skiing area in southern Europe with up to 250 kilometres of slopes. Further ropeway facilities and connections to other skiing areas are planned for the near future.
