Interalpin with a focus on the future

The 25th edition of the trade show for ropeway and alpine technologies, to be held from May 6–9, 2025, will again provide an ideal platform for industry innovations and discussion on current issues. The event will include a new exhibition area dedicated to urban ropeway systems entitled "City Cable Car Solutions", and the ISR Architecture Award will be making a comeback.

In 2025, Interalpin (www.interalpin.eu) will last four days, one day longer than in the past. Congress Messe Innsbruck (CMI), the organizer of the event, took the decision to extend the trade show in the light of the continuous increase in products and services on the market and also the need to optimize visitor flows. The attendance is expected to at least equal the 35,000 trade visitors from around 130 countries who came to Interalpin in 2023. Interalpin is a highly international event: In 2023, international trade visitors accounted for more than 65% of the total, and these global decision-makers were keen to invest. This was also reflected in the approx. 75% share of top decision-makers among trade visitors. “An important aspect of our work is bringing together these many interests under one roof,” says Christian Mayerhofer, Managing Director of CMI.

As a first highlight of the leading trade show for alpine technologies, the Austrian Ropeway Conference organized by the Austrian Ropeway Association will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

Urban mobility as a future market

Visitors to Interalpin are not only focused on ropeways in the context of mountain tourism and other leisure facilities. According to a visitor survey conducted in 2023, around 15% of trade visitors were interested in solutions for public transport in urban agglomerations. Ropeways are continuously gaining ground in the field of urban mobility, and Interalpin is responding to this development with a dedicated section of the event.

Cities continue to grow, land is scarce, and traffic is reaching system capacity limits. Experts and practitioners are convinced that urban ropeways are an ideal fit with existing transport networks; they can close gaps, reduce traffic congestion, overcome topographical obstacles and provide links to rural areas. Urban ropeways have multiple advantages: They have a small footprint, operate on electricity and are therefore climate-friendly and can be designed with high transport capacities.
More and more cities – and there are flagship projects in South and Central America and Asia in particular – have opted to upgrade their public transport systems with the help of ropeways. Europe also has its flagship urban ropeway installations, and further projects are now in the planning stage.

City Cable Car Solutions will showcase the urban mobility projects currently being developed by the major players in the industry. In addition to the central alpine technology aspects of passenger transportation in winter, plus piste management, safety and snowmaking, urban transport will thus be an additional focus of Interalpin in 2025. The event will present examples of best practice and the most promising innovations in the field of urban mobility. The potential associated with this highly topical issue will also be explored during the Inspiration Days.

ISR Architecture Award back on stage

Following the awards made 2009 and 2013, the ISR Architecture Award powered by Interalpin will again be presented on the last day of the event, Friday May 9, 2025 in Forum 2. Awards will be made for outstanding solutions in the categories Overall Project, Individual Project and Exceptional Sustainability. Further details about the award can be found online (including information on submissions) at de.isr.at/singleview/article/architektur-award.
