Under the motto “Switch off the PCs and get on your skis!”, the skiing associations of Baden-Württemberg and PistenBully organized twenty days of events in the first quarter of 2017, getting over 2,000 primary school children between the ages of 7 and 9 out on the snow. For one entire day the children’s schedule read: “PistenBully Cup”. It included everything from small ramps and jumps to a slalom run – with the PistenBully mini-skis used in all cases. The highlight at the end of the day was the PistenBully Cup award. All the kids had lots of fun in the competition with their classmates. It allowed them to try out winter sports in a more playful style. All the SBW coaches agree that the short mini-skis make gliding and the first contact with snow what it should be: child’s play. The coaches were equally enthusiastic about the event: “What a terrific idea! Today over a hundred kids had tremendous fun with winter sports. They were all absolutely thrilled. This is an example of great work with young athletes. Real cool!” In some of the locations, the organizers prepared a very special treat. After all the fun in the snow, the kids were allowed to ride in a PistenBully. And that is not the end of the story: In the summer, the children will master a trial of skills and do specific exercises in their gym classes to help them improve the co-ordination required for skiing and snowboarding.
