The new Jordan 8 – a spectacular “Lady in Red”

Sunday River Resort, one of the largest ski resorts in Maine (USA), opened the new Jordan 8 eight-seater chairlift on December 26, 2022. The D-Line installation has a strong focus on user comfort, including seats with bubbles for protection against the elements. In addition to the striking station design, the bubbles make the new installation a real eye-catcher; at the customer’s request, they were finished in Sunday River red.

The highly varied Sunday River ski area is located in the mountains of western Maine and is a member of the Boyne Resorts family. The area provides access to eight peaks and has lots to offer advanced skiers and riders, as well as beginners and families. The winter sports resort is located at an altitude of approximately 800 to 3,140 ft (250 - 957 m) above sea level. As one of the largest ski resorts in the Northeast, Sunday River is committed to sustainable growth and further enhancements in terms of comfort and convenience. The envisaged developments are set out in the Sunday River 2030 ten-year plan. The new Jordan 8 state-of-the-art D-Line chairlift, which was commissioned in December 2022, is one of the items in the plan.

Good stability in wind

The Jordan 8 services terrain on the Oz and Jordan Bowl peaks. This part of Sunday River will come to be known as the Western Reserve as future terrain development plans come to life in the several thousand acres of land beyond Jordan Bowl. With a ride time of just 4½ minutes, the new D-Line 8-seater chairlift with bubbles – a replacement for the Jordan Express, a quad chairlift without bubbles built in 1994 – can carry 3,200 skiers and snowboarders per hour from the base of Jordan Bowl to the summit. In view of the exposed terrain and the resulting wind and weather conditions, wind stability was a key factor in the planning of Jordan 8 so as to achieve high levels of availability on windy days. The new 8-seater chairlift offers users the ultimate in comfort with such features as individual heated seats in ergonomic design with centered footrests, as well as bubbles for protection against the wind and weather. Finished in Sunday River red, the bubbles make the Jordan 8 a real eye-catcher. The same color has been used for the station buildings. The installation also features a Chairkit rise-able loading conveyor. The original lift line has been largely retained, although it is now wider than before. The installation gives access to easy, intermediate, advanced and expert trails and glades. In the course of the work on the Jordan 8, the popular Kansas Trail was also optimized. The redesign of the trail created much smoother terrain, consistent grade and an easier entrance.
